"WORTH"

Conceptualization Proceess

"WORTH"- Introduction

One of the biggest challenges with this piece was creating the balance between clean, architectural detail and precision while allowing a human naturalness to the body of work.

Before the gesso is even used, I test the structural integrity of the canvas.

There are times when certain portions of the canvas may have blemishes or imperfections that may not be visible without observation. I always find it good to make sure that I’m aware of these before I start my work. -

When working with this specific piece the most important thing was preparation. Each color must adhere to the perspective of the body of art.

To create something like this without a compelling reason, force, or meaning removes the life from the piece making it artificial and generative.

This is some of many conceptualizations made in order to find the right balance of movement in the piece.

The body of work began with the creation of a base layer with a white gesso.

The color curated was a combination of an ultramarine blue as the main tone, followed by smaller percentages of ivory black, cadmium red & yellow medium hue, along with Paynes gray to add a subtleness to it.

Using a cross-hatching technique I created the base layer of the body of the artwork.

After curating the color scheme, I created the spirals in a vertical position, holding the fluid paint in a tiny tube. With my arm moving like a pendulum, I mimicked the motion of a forced, fluid momentum.

Layering the Gold proved to be one of the biggest obstacles with this work. With each leaf weighing .0012 grams.

Carefully layering the adhesive to the largest areas of energy in the body of work was the first task, done in sections.

Following was the transfer of each leaf, moving from the sheets to each area on the canvas, this took a total of 10 hours for the entire process.

Application of the iridescent pearl with red hue required an under painting of a similar hue of the background.
